The ceramic studio at The Art Cellar as a spot open for a new potter in our community studio space in downtown Greenville. Studio rent is $250 a month and includes all kiln firings, dedicated shelf space, use of a community wheel, slab roller, and lots of table/counter space. Room for more wheels/equipment if you have your own. Kiln is a new Skutt KM-1027. Studio artists 24/7 access and also have the ability to teach classes and sell your wares through the gallery at 25% commission. The Art Cellar is a former restaurant space with an art gallery in the old dinning area featuring over 50 local artists and a ceramic studio in the old kitchen with 3-4 resident studio artists. The studio is a very large space with lots of counter space, sinks, and room to work small production or feel the need to create your own ceramic work! Please contact [email protected] for any questions and come see the space during the galleries hours of Tuesday - Saturday 11-6. www.greenvilleartcellar.com   Upstate Printmakers form Contemporary Print Collective Exhibits at The Art Cellar and UPSTATE Gallery on Main A group of upstate artists and printmakers have joined forces to establish the Contemporary Print Collective with the aim of creating, exhibiting, collaborating and educating audiences on the importance of different print processes in Art. The members of this group encompass Anderson, Greenville and Spartanburg counties. The group seeks to provide a dialogue on contemporary issues in Art, to facilitate a collaboration of learning and resourcing for studio practice, and to provide opportunities for promotion and exhibition of individual and collective works and educational opportunities for all. The Contemporary Print Collective (CPC) is being introduced publicly in two venues, The Art Cellar in downtown Greenville and the UPSTATE Gallery on Main, downtown Spartanburg. Hand pulled original artist prints in limited editions and monotypes, signed and numbered, at affordable prices will be available for viewing and for purchase at both locations. Contemporary Print Collective will show as the November guest exhibition at The Art Cellar located at 123B South Main Street, Greenville SC from November 6th through November 30th. The salon style gallery showcases over 40 local artists with a wide range of mediums, styles, and prices. The artists from the CPC group will be at the gallery’s First Friday art reception from 6pm-9pm on Friday November 6th. Contemporary Print Collective 2015 Print Exposition to show at the UPSTATE Gallery on Main located at 172 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC from November 12th through December 31st. The gallery offers a broad range of cultural, conceptual and technical exhibitions in the visual arts while supporting the mission of the USC Upstate. The artists from the CPC 2015 Print Exposition will be at the Spartanburg Art Walk, held every third Thursday from 5pm-8pm on November 19th and December 17th. CPC is comprised of a variety of well established artists from Upstate South Carolina who work in the medium of hand made artist prints. The collective meets once a month at The Print Shop in Greenville with a mission to foster an awareness for original artist prints by promoting exhibitions, educational opportunities, and encouraging the art of collecting prints. Young entrepreneur introduces The Art Cellar, features work from more than 40 local artists
Greenville, S.C. – The Art Cellar, formerly The Henderson Art Gallery, is now open at 123 B South Main Street in downtown Greenville. The gallery recently underwent a change in ownership, and Greenville artist Lindsay Louise McPhail plans to further the gallery’s role in the local art community. “Greenville has a thriving, talented and diverse art community – and it is growing rapidly,” notes McPhail, owner of The Art Cellar. “The Art Cellar is a prime space to showcase local artists and give residents and tourist a relaxed, approachable place to purchase and experience art. The gallery showcases the talent and creativity of the Upstate, and through it, I hope to encourage the advancement of the arts in Greenville.” McPhail is a Greenville native and Clemson University alumna, where she obtained a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree. She also studied art education at The Corcoran College of Art and Design and worked at the National Museum for Women in the Arts. Additionally, McPhail is a ceramic artist and printmaker, with pieces on display at the gallery. The Art Cellar offers a broad range of unique artwork exhibited salon-style, including watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, photography, handmade jewelry and metals, and pottery. Notably, all of the artists exhibited in the gallery are local or native to the Upstate. The Greenville community is invited to attend the gallery’s Grand Opening reception on Wednesday, July 16 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., where they will be able to meet many of the artists featured in the space. A ribbon cutting ceremony with The Greenville Chamber of Commerce will also be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 4:00 p.m. at the gallery. The Art Cellar is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The space is also available by appointment weekday mornings and for private networking events on weekday evenings. Moved in some of my gear this weekend and will start working out of the new space at the first of the year! Lots of new work and at First Friday's to come soon!       This is a project that I worked on last semester for my Digital Media for Educators course. We were to make a teaching tool using digital media. It's a rough, but funny animation using Flash CS4 to explain the clay making process from start to finish as short as I could make it, while still covering all of the process and keeping students still interested.
Went to Baltimore Clayworks today to view the show "More than skin deep." The show was full of pieces with decals, silkscreen, and other printmaking based techniques that I have been experimenting with. Also, it had a lot of pieces playing with texture that really made you want to touch it. Today was just what I needed to get motivated to get back in the studio and produce some great work!
 I just registered for fall classes at Corcoran College of Art and Design and I'm extremely happy with my schedule! I start classes on the first week of September and I will be taking 13.5 credits for my first semester. I'm taking my core art education classes ED6020 Development, Behavior, and Learning, ED6060 Digital Art for Educators, ED5000 Graduate Art Education Core, and FN5000 Graduate Studio Foundation. But the class I'm most excited for is CR1400 Clay loves Printmaking! Yes, that is the actual name of the class! Here is the course description :
"Like peaunt butter and chocolate, this whole can transcend its parts. We will explore a range of techniques combining printmaking and clay from singular mono prints to magical multiples. The print side will bring linoleum cuts, screen printing, and 2-D and 3-D mono printing to the ceramics studio. Clay components will include basic slab work and hand building as well as slipcasting. We will incorporate printmaking at both the plastic and post-fire stages of making. Intro level experience with screen printing and ceramic hand building will be helpful." I really think this class will make my first semester be a easy transition because I will be learning and doing what I love to do! Of course I'm excited about the Art Education classes, but I wanted to make sure I could still take some studio classes in Ceramics or Printmaking so I could work on improving my techniques for my work own work which I combinie the two processes. Now I will be taking a class that is focused just in that! I know I made a great decision with Corcoran, even though I will be in major debt by the time I'm out. I keep on having to explain to my parents that it will be well worth it end the end, and by the look of my first semester schedule I know it will!  Last Saturday July 18th, 2009 I participated in the Mill to Moon Festival up in Slater, SC. This was a community festival celebrating the history and people of Slater, SC and their efforts towards our trip to the Moon in 1969. I set up as a crafter and spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon selling my pottery, talking to the locals, and listening to Blue Grass. What a great way to spend my afternoon and talk about my art!     I have taught swim lessons before, I use to be a dance teacher, and now I have officially taught as an art teacher! When paint is involved, it is definitely a different way of teaching! I taught 2 classes of 5 and 6 year olds at Explore the Art Camp held at the Fine Arts Center. It was a wonderful experience for me because I was teaching along side a staff that taught me art when I was younger. I feel like I have come full circle and I know that I have made a good decision about going to grad school for education.    |
